Director of Islamic Higher Education Professor Arskal Salim farewells 2019 PIES group

We are very pleased to introduce the 2019 PIES group, five of whom arrived in Canberra on 5 February. The sixth participant arrived on 11 March. The students were farewelled on 31 January 2019 by the Director of Islamic Higher Education at Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA), Professor Arskal Salim. Professor Salim, an alumnae of the University of Melbourne and senior professor at the State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah in Jakarta, told the students to use this opportunity wisely to improve their skills, increase their academic networks and strengthen their English language capacity. ‘May this program increase your academic reputation’, he said, while reminding the participants of the PIES program that while they are in Australia, they are ambassadors for Indonesia. He continued: ‘My hope is that after you return to Indonesia you will make a large contribution to raising academic standards of the campuses where you serve’
